33 years ago today “the largest slaughter of the modern age” began in the city of Hama.
The ‘incident’ as the 1982 massacre was called, could not be mourned publicly, nor could the victims commemorate their fallen – only whispered about in the homes of close friends and family.
It forever changed the Syrian psyche, creating a culture of fear, resentment & distrust of one another ensuring few decades of dominance for the Assad regime.
Now that the fear has been broken – through the sacrifices of millions – we can make up for lost years.
Take a moment and say a prayer for those lost then, and for those sacrifices being made today.
